2017 Moots Vamoots RSL

Though there are lots of brands that are reaching to have the most aero this or lightest that, there is something so elegant and reliable about the Moots Vamoots RSL racing bike. Here is a bike that not only offers lightweight high quality, but a level of comfort and classic refinement that will make you super happy to buy a bike like this that will last a lifetime.

Titanium is the signature material for Moots, and their decades of experience dealing with ti comes shining through from the first moment you look at it till that last pedal stroke of your longest ride. Taking the straight gauge US titanium, they ship it off to Reynolds in England to have them butt it here and taper it there, according to precise Moots specifications in order to increase the stiffness where they want, and to elevate the vertical compliance in the other desirable places, effectively reducing the weight of the frame while increasing the lateral stiffness. It’s a magically balanced bike to ride largely because Moots knows the most intimate details of how to work with their titanium frames. And when you combine the butted tube set with Moot’s tapered technology, it maximizes the press fit 30 bottom bracket stiffness for quick acceleration. Meanwhile, the micro diameter of the seat stays makes sure that tons of the road chatter is absorbed before it reaches your rear. And the breezer style dropouts, or that little extra lip of material protecting the quick release gives it a neat, traditional look while adding to touch of stiffness to the area.

To keep the front end rigid and responsive, Moots makes a 44mm diameter head tube standard for the RSL, so that you will have the pleasure and security of being able to rely on the rigid and predictable handling, which is so important especially when you are looking to rage down a descent. The frame comes with a Moots RSL Carbon fork that will assist in the handling department and help keep the front end comfortable and responsive. It’s a touch stiffer than the regular Moots road fork, and a touch lighter, since the RSL really takes the racing cake in the Moots line-up. As evidence of their attention to detail, Moots makes nine stock sizes for the RSL, and each size is given not only its own appropriate angles and tube lengths, but the tube diameters and wall thicknesses are adjusted according to the size. No cookie-cutter one diameter fits all nonsense here, so the largest sizes receive the type of treatment that will keep them as stiff and responsive as the smaller frames, while the smaller frames don’t have to carry extra weight from having unnecessarily thick tubing. And since Moots also offer custom builds, you can have them tweak every facet of the build to suit your needs. Do you want to go electric? Then you can route the cables internally. And the front derailleur fits a 34.9mm mount.

This is the rim brake version of the Moots Vamoots RSL, though you can check out the cutting-edge disc brake version, which comes with 3D printed titanium dropouts as well. But if you already have a fantastic pair of lightweight, aero racing wheels, this will be a gorgeous frame to mate them with. You may think you can get any color so long as it’s titanium, but there are also anodized finish options to spruce up your look if you are searching for a little pizzazz.
